Food Allergies and the White House

It was big news that President Barack Obama signed H.R. 2094, the School Access to Emergency Epinephrine Act, into law. This law will help kids with food allergies by having schools stock an emergency supply of epinephrine and ensure that there are school employees trained in how to administer epinephrine.

It turns out that the legislation is personal to the First Family. President Obama’s daughter Malia has a peanut allergy herself. Though we’re never glad someone else suffers from food allergies, it is cool for my kid to know other people have them, too–especially the President’s own child.

And I’m so glad that this law passed, and with bipartisan support no less. Thank you, FARE, and all the others who advocated for this over the past few years.
