I’ve been thinking about TAKE BACK THE GAME: How Money and Mania are Ruining Kids’ Sports and Why It Matters, since I finished it.
Written by journalist Linda Flanagan, herself a parent, coach, and athlete, it’s thought-provoking and feels like essential reading for anyone who wants all kids to be able to play sports and be active for fun. Most upsetting are the sections on how sports, once accessible to everyone, has become a pay-to-play experience for more and more communities, meaning the affordable ways to engage in sports are going by the wayside.
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, coach, or a sports fan, this is an excellent read.
